Winter Parking Restrictions
Just a reminder that winter parking restrictions are now in effect. There is no parking on any streets between the hours of 2:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. whether it is snowing or not. This is in effect until April 1st. If you have overnight guests, you may call the police department at 262-284-2611 and request permission for them to park on the street. Permission to park will be granted on a night by night basis.

Comprehensive Park & Open Space Plan
The City of Port Washington Parks & Recreation Department is again inviting members of the community (residents, business owners, employees, etc.) to participate in the update of the City's Comprehensive Park and Open Space Plan. The plan serves to guide the continual improvement of the City's park and open space system and to maintain the City's eligibility for state and federal park and recreation grants. The City of Port Washington realizes the importance and benefits its park and open space system has on the City's character and quality of life, and is committed to providing for the recreational needs of its current and future residents. The approval of the Comprehensive Park and Open Space Plan will be on the Common Council agenda for the November 18th meeting. There is a final opportunity, before Council approval, to provide feedback on the Plan during the Public Comments section. Public Information Meeting - Wednesday, November 5, 2014
The Port Washington Community Development Authority invites you to an informational meeting on Wednesday, November 5, 2014 at 6:30 p.m. in the Common Council Chambers at City Hall to review the redevelopment recommendations in the recently completed downtown study. The recommendations are the result of the input received at a public visioning session held in August and the work done by Community Design Solutions. Members of the public are also invited.

Brush and Leaf Collection
Brush Collection will end on Friday, October 31, 2014 for the 2014 Season. Please place your brush out on Sunday, October 26th for collection that week.

Leaf Collection has begun and will continue through November. You may rake your leaves into the gutter line. The Vac-All will be around to collect them. Please do not place dead plant and other items in the gutter line. This will clog the Vac-All. Please place all leaves in the gutter line on Sunday, November 23rd for final collection on Monday, November 24th, Tuesday, November 25th, or Wednesday, November 26th - weather permitting.

Early Voting
In Person Absentee Voting and In Person Voter Registration are available Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from October 20th - October 31st in the City Clerk's Office. The last day for In Person Absentee Voting and In Person Voter Registration will be on Friday, October 31st at 5:00 p.m. After that time you may vote and register to vote on Election Day, November 4th at your polling locations. All individuals who are registering or re-registering to vote MUST provide Proof Of Residency. Some of the most common documents include a Wisconsin Drivers License or State ID with your name and current address on it, utility bill or bank statement. Late Thursday, October 9, 2014, the United States Supreme Court issued an order blocking implementation of the Wisconsin Voter Photo ID law for the November 4, 2014 General Election. Please check back here and our Elections page often. We will update this information as we receive it.

Sky Lantern Launch Cancelled
The Port Washington Main Street Board Of Directors voted today, out of concern for the community we call home, to cancel the Sky Lantern Launch scheduled for Saturday, September 27th. The overwhelming and ongoing safety and environmental concerns raised over the last days has prompted this action and the Board of Directors apologizes for any inconveniences. All pre-ordered lanterns will still be available for pick-up at the Port Washington Farmer's Market from 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and Coal Dock Park from 4:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. Or, they would be happy to refund your purchase by calling their office at 262-268-1132.

Port Washington Main Street is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that works with revitalization and economic development for downtown Port Washington. It is their mission to bring positive experiences and unique events to Port Washington and will continue to make that their focus.

Hydrant Flushing in September
The City of Port Washington Water Department will be flushing hydrants in the City during the weeks of September 8 - 12, 2014, September l5 - 19, 2014 and September 22 - 26, 2014. Because of the possibility of discoloring of your water due to disturbance of mains, we advise if it is at all possible, that you refrain from washing clothes between the hours of 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. during these weeks. Dangerous Swimming Conditions
The National Weather Service in Sullivan warned swimmers on Wednesday of high waves and strong currents along the shores of Lake Michigan.

The most dangerous swimming conditions are expected at Vollrath Park Beach, North Side Municipal Beach and Blue Harbor Beach in Sheboygan; Upper Lake Park Beach in Port Washington, and Harrington State Park beaches. The high waves and rip currents will make swimming difficult even for a strong, experienced swimmer, the agency warns.

The "beach hazards statement" is one of several new alerts provided by the weather service to warn the public of possible hazards at Lake Michigan beaches in southeast Wisconsin.

The Port Washington Police Department has issued letters regarding parking restrictions for Fish Day 2014, which will be held on July 19th, 2014. South Coal Dock Is Closed
We Energies regrets to inform the city that they must close public access to the south coal dock at Port Washington, starting 06/19/14. The sheetpile wall on the south side of that dock has moved significantly recently and they are very concerned about public safety for anyone using the walking path in that area. They will be barricading the bike path at both the north and south entrances to the dock. We Energies apologizes for any inconvenience this may cause. The north coal dock park is not affected by this situation. The South Coal Dock will be closed for a "minimum" of two weeks.

The City of Port Washington 2014 Street Improvement Project will begin on Monday, June 9.

In 2014, the City of Port Washington plans to reconstruct the following streets:

Don't Forget That Bike Helmet
The City of Port Washington requires that every person less than 16 years of age operating or riding on a bicycle on a public roadway, public sidewalk, public bicycle path or any other public right-of-way under the jurisdiction and control of the City shall wear a protective helmet designed for bicycle safety. Violators may be issued a citation.

City Yard Is Open
The Street Department Yard opened on Tuesday, April 1, 2014. The hours are:
    Tuesdays:    3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
    Thursdays:   3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.
    Saturdays: 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.

2014 Parking Lot Closures
On Monday, April 14, the parking lot behind Duluth Trading/Schooners/Harry’s (Marina Lot) will be closed for reconstruction. The currently scheduled date of completion is June 6th. “Road Closed” signs will be placed on Grand Avenue at Franklin Street, at the Holiday Inn east driveway, and at Main St. on Franklin Street. A sign will be posted on Franklin/Main Street indicating that the road is open to Port Washington State Bank. Motorists exiting the shopping center parking lot will also be allowed access to Main Street while the street is being reconstructed, but the cul-de-sac will be closed.

The closure of the parking lot behind Associated Bank (Washington Street lot) is currently scheduled for April 23rd. It is also scheduled to be completed by June 6th. During construction, the east/west alley will remain open to the parking areas behind the Post Office and Vines To Cellar. Vehicles exiting the parking lot behind the Boerner Mercantile Building may exit to the west to access Milwaukee Street.

During construction, on-street parking limitations will be lifted on sections of N. Milwaukee Street, E. Main Street, E. Washington Street, and E. Pier Street.

Leaves And Grass Clippings Reminder
Just a friendly reminder to not rake leaves and grass clippings into the street. The City does not pick up leaves in the street during Spring. Only in Fall does the City allow residents to rake leaves into the street. If you have any questions, please contact 262-284-2600 for more information.

Report Your Garbage/Recycling Cart Serial Numbers Online!
Due to recent thefts of garbage and recycling carts, the City of Port Washington is requesting that all residents record the serial numbers of their garbage and recycling carts and report these numbers to the Department of Public Works. Starting May 1, 2013, any garbage and/or recycling cart that is stolen from a residence, and the property owner and/or the City does not have the serial numbers, will have to pay Advanced Disposal to replace the garbage and recycling cart. You may report these numbers by calling 262.284.2600, or by filling out our convenient online form.

New Polling Locations for 2014
Beginning in 2014 there will be two new polling locations. Thomas Jefferson Middle School and Dunwiddie Elementary School can no longer be used by the City for voting.

The Aldermanic Districts and Wards have not changed. You do not need to re-register to vote if your polling location has been changed by the City. You only need to re-register to vote if you have moved to a new physical address or changed your name since the last election you voted in.
